Job description: Employment TypeFull-timeExempt or Non-ExemptExemptJob Summary*Hybrid Work Environment – Must reside in Hawaii*Pay Range: $53,996 – $79,258Note: Individuals typically begin between the minimum to middle of the pay rangeThe Senior Designer (Lead) is a key member of the Communications department and will help drive strategic design and creative concepts for corporate campaigns and Island Scene magazine. This person will create original print and digital materials from concept to output of final product for corporate communications and HMSA’s Island Scene magazine and provide guidance and direction to graphic artist I & II on all phases of design and production for corporate communications and HMSA Island Scene magazine.The Senior Designer backs up the Creative Director and independently makes decisions regarding design and style choices in their absence.Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design or related field and three years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  • Strong visual design skills demonstrated through a portfolio of work.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic photography experience required
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator)

Duties and ResponsibilitiesCreativeIndependently research and design original materials from beginning concept to final product.Interpret/understand project requirements from job request form and/or meetings with Executives, Communications Program Manager and/or customer.Design and create materials according to project specs and through research/inspiration.Lead conceptual meetings with design team and partners.Direct photo shoots for corporate projects and campaigns and Island Scene Magazine.Shoot photos as requested for print or web use.Assist video team and/or web team with video graphics/animations or web graphics.Route work through online project tracker for review process for feedback and updates.Coordinate with printshop/vendors and freelance artists to establish printing/service costs and negotiate cost and production schedules.Provide updates on project status/timelines and costs through online project tracker.Oversee the production and delivery of material, filing of documents and art, and archiving of project files and documentation.Conduct QA Review of final product to ensure adherence to association guidelines/regulatory requirements.Conduct visual review and approval of Island Scene Magazine, during press checks, ensuring the colors, formatting, and overall design and layout of the Magazine is correct during printing.LeadershipProvide guidance and direction to Graphic Artist I and IIsAssign all new projects. Works with CPMs to balance teamwork loads.Review all work of graphic artists to ensure it meets brand and industry standards.Provide feedback to graphic artists to ensure quality of work meets standards.Assist Creative Director in art direction and production of Island Scene magazine.Assist graphic artists in resolving conflicts with other team members or customers.Train peers in areas of expertise to promote continuous improvement within the unit.Stimulates ideas and identifies critical next steps in any phase of a project.CollaborationAssist Creative Director and Communications management team with special projects, as assigned.Meet with executive staff or department management to discuss/evaluate project requirements and development.Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed.#LI-Hybrid
