Graphic Designers develop new creative concepts and original design directions in support of LSU branding initiatives and marketing communication strategies. They work closely with the marketing, content, social media, media relations, photography, video, web, and copy writing teams to create, support and extend new and existing brand concepts across emerging technologies and in multi-media executions including print and digital.Job Responsibilities:30%: Conceive, design, and finalize (pre-press) high-level print, social media and web-based graphic design, illustration, and/or animation concepts. Serve as creative lead on projects that have state-wide, national, and international prominence. Projects may include the creation of work and provision of art direction for clients like the Office of the President, the Board of Supervisors, and other campuses within the LSU System.30%: Meet project deadlines, which includes high-pressure, high-profile, and quick-turn projects with broad reach that may include multiple design deliverables and have high level of importance. Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and advance multiple projects simultaneously. Working after designated business hours during evenings and weekends is expected if doing so is required to meet deadlines.20%: Collaborate/meet with the marketing communications team, campus constituents, and subject matter experts to assess the purpose, audience, message, quantity, distribution, and budget for proposed projects. Lead client meetings with diplomacy to facilitate discussions that will guide clients to solutions that best reflect and protect the LSU brand. Consults with and advises clients who wish to do their own desktop and web publishing. Oversees their work to ensure it meets the LSU brand standards. Manage projects and client communication using the project management tool provided.20%: Write project specifications for use in procurement bids and contracts. Work closely with Marketing Production Coordinator to ensure projects are produced to specifications. Communicate with vendors to ensure projects are pre-pressed/finalized to specified standards. This includes 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, environmental, digital, animation, and other types of projects. Provide guidance to graphic design student workers interning in LSU Marketing Communications. Serve in LSU’s Emergency Operations Center in times of crisis, which could involve 24/7 shift work at the EOC including nights and weekends when a crisis occurs. May perform other duties as assigned.The individual in this role must be self-motivated, have a positive, professional demeanor, a high level of comfort with a close and collaborative work process, and be comfortable juggling multiple projects simultaneously in a busy, fast-paced work environment. This individual must be able to thrive in that setting and have strong creative talents, understand the business goals of the university, and work effectively as a team member.In compliance with PS 18, this person must have the ability to report to work during crisis situations to assist with university communications, which includes reporting to and working in the LSU EOC.Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s DegreeYears of Experience: 3 yearsProfessional experience as a graphic designer in a university publications office, advertising agency, design firm, or as a freelancer or contract worker is required. A portfolio of graphic design work is required. Knowledge of web design principles, including responsive design and user experience best practices including familiarity with HTML, CSS, and other web technologies is required.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s of Fine Arts5 + yearsA BFA with a concentration in graphic design and two years experience as a graphic designer in a collaborative, team setting is preferred. Experience with prototyping tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, or similar software and familiarity with accessibility standards and guidelines is preferred.Job Competencies:Proficient in the following:
