For more than 30 years, CEPEDA has manufactured, serviced, and upgraded life support equipment and other complex mechanical components for the U.S. Navy’s submarine fleet. CEPEDA’s equipment is responsible for removing atmospheric contaminants such as carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen (H2), and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Plus, CEPEDA has nearly 20 years’ experience with equipment in high-pressure applications. Aside from our normal stable of equipment, CEPEDA offers build-to-print manufacturing for numerous other mechanical applications.As we look to the future, CEPEDA is excited to continue to play an important role in the development and production of life support systems and high pressure equipment for the Navy and looks forward to participating in any research, development, testing, and manufacturing of upgraded equipment and next generation hardware.The Mechanical Designer is to support the Engineering team and other departments at producing high quality, mission critical products, and systems for the United States Navy. The Designer’s job is to help manage technical information and communicate it to various departments. While this includes digital model/drawing management, it also includes Mechanical/Electrical design, concept generation, problem solving, BOM (Bill of Material) generation, internal process improvements, collaboration with other departments, and other responsibilities that contribute to designing and producing high quality products. The Designer will also help CEPEDA fully transition and into utilizing and integrating digital data to its fullest extent within the CEPEDA manufacturing environment. This may include working with CAM software or other machine software to optimizing file transfer capabilities, build tool libraries, transfer programming, etc.The Designer will work on an engineering team consisting of professional engineers, project managers, project engineers, engineering management, co-op engineers, and other designers. The Designer role has potential to grow into a team leadership role within our group of Designers. This would allow them to develop and structure the team, with Engineering Management, to be best utilized to support the goals of CEPEDA.Responsibilities/Duties

  • Create and maintain models and drawings for craftsmen, vendors, and customers for existing and new equipment
  • Work as part of a collaborative team to balance workloads and ensure quality deliverables are produced on time
  • Assist engineering team with day-to-day project functions, including researching product specifications, contacting vendors, and other support functions as needed
  • Update bills of materials (BOMs) and facilitate entry into MRP system or other database
  • Complete tasks in engineering documentation
  • Identify and aid in process improvement and standardization
  • Work with purchasing and manufacturing to provide technical support as needed
  • Maintain utilization by assisting with non-drafting project activities such as component assembly and hands-on work in the shop as required
  • Import and break down customer supplied CAD data to support quoting new business opportunities

Skills/Training/Qualifications required

  • Associate degree in drafting or CAD, or three years of relevant work experience
  • Thorough knowledge of drawings, tools, equipment, software, methods, and standard practices of the CAD profession
  • Thoughtfulness concerning proper management of digital data
  • Ability to work collaboratively to solve engineering problems
  • High initiative, work ethic, and reliability
  • Interest in personal and professional growth
  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate technical information
  • Ability to work well on a team but also independently to meet established goals
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Database/MRP skills desired
