The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team.Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Purple Line Deputy Director, Public Outreach within the Office of Transit Development and Delivery. This position’s primary responsibility is to assist agency leadership in communicating important messages to the public about the MTA Purple Line Light Rail Transit Project. This position has three (3) direct reports and manages consultant staff while reporting to the Purple Line Project Director AND the Transit and Delivery Director (TDD). This position is on-call 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week to respond to requests from agency executive leadership regarding off hour’s media inquiries.The Purple Line Deputy Director, Public Outreach will be responsible for all outreach, communication strategies and plans, as well as managing day-to-day interactions with media. They will develop messages and materials about the Purple Line Project as it relates to key stakeholders, residents, elected officials, local jurisdictions, and small businesses.This position writes and refines content across the agency website and social media platforms to ensure a consistent experience across various device types, as well as insure the maintenance and growth of web properties on all digital platforms.The person in this role will oversee all written materials, including news releases, speeches, articles, presentations, correspondence, event fact sheets and briefing memos that will have public view regarding the Purple Line.The Purple Line Deputy Director, Public Outreach works in conjunction with MTA Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) and MDOT Office of Public Affairs in setting up press conferences, media events, community advisory team meetings and other events as well as insuring proper staffing of these events.
This vacancy is located in Riverdale, MDKEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with MTA and MDOT leadership staff to stay current with the latest project activities, initiatives, and decisions.
  • Develop public messages consistent with project goals and events, includes engaging project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate media inquiries and responses with MTA leadership staff.
  • Create and implement plans to drive engagement, improve visitor interactions and optimize performance of digital content on all platforms.
  • Lead the activities of consultant’s staff and collaborate public affairs staff daily.
  • Lead staff to develop plans for optimizing user’s website experiences.
  • Lead graphic design needs for web and other digital properties including social media.
  • Create and disseminate analytical reports related to internal documents, applications, and content across multiple departments on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Assist in special projects across departments critical agency performance and agency presence in the public eye.

QualificationsEDUCATION:A bachelor’s degree in communications, business, public affairs, public relations, sociology, law enforcement, or similar area of discipline(s) from an accredited college or university.EXPERIENCE:Six (6) years of experience in a leadership role, managing a team of at least 2 FTE’s. Previous work experience should display working with businesses and neighborhood groups, schools, non-profits, or advocacy groups as well as elected officials; local, state, federal officials.Licenses & CertificationsEmployees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.
